Shortcut (2026)
Materials & Techniques: Rift Sawn White Oak, Peruvian Walnut, Poplar Dowels, Metallic Paint, Glass.
I had an idea in 2023 or 2024 to create a dowel rod structure with random interlocking connections. The idea was eventually developed into my pieces titled Shortcut, which is a small side table, and With a Little Help From My Friends, which is a coffee table.
The design features the dowel rod sculpture suspended inside of a white oak and Peruvian walnut 3-way mitered frame. I wanted to create a piece that invited the eye to travel the dowel rod sculpture from one outer frame member to the another via the sculpture connections. Shortcut is a play on the size of the side table as well as the density of the sculpture connections. With a Little Help From My Friends is an allusion the Beatles song of the same name and the way the dowels hold each other up above the floor.
Shortcut represents the finest craftsmanship, heirloom quality, and forward thinking design of custom tables made in Oklahoma City.
