Iceberg (2023)

Materials & Techniques: Zebrawood, Walnut, Curly Maple Veneer, Glass.

Iceberg is a coffee table featuring a stack laminated zebrawood sculpture contained within a modern rectilinear 3-way mitered walnut frame above a curly maple veneered floor.  The sculpture was cut in a way to create the illusion that the piece passes through the glass top.  The upper “mountains” are held in place via magnets and are removable for cleaning purposes.

Iceberg began in 2014 while I was building the Ambient Wave Bedroom Suite for a private client.  The bedroom suite featured zebrawood as the primary background wood tone.  Zebrawood is a rare and expensive wood.  I didn’t want to waste the offcuts and began gluing them together into a big chunk in order to carve a sculpture.  The idea stalled out and the sculpture blank sat on a shelf for nearly 9 years.  One day in 2023 I decided to do something with the blank and the idea for Iceberg was born.

Iceberg represents the finest craftsmanship, heirloom quality, and forward thinking design of custom furniture made in Oklahoma City. No paint, stain, or dye was used in the creation of this piece. A clear coat finish was applied to preserve the natural wood tones and textures.

Dimensions: 37.875” wide, 19.875” deep, 16” tall glass height (19.375” tall to top of mountains).
