Reeds (2015)

Materials & Techniques:  Cherry, Purple Heart, Alder.

I rarely make items that are not “functional”, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to create Reeds!  I had attempted a steam bent lamination with purple heart strips for another project that failed miserably.  I was preparing to cut the scrap up and throw it away when the thought occurred to me that the purple heart strip looked a lot like the stem of a flower.  The strips combined with an angular top resembles a cubist interpretation of a cattail. The stems are freely resting in the base and the sculpture can be rearranged as desired.

Reeds is an art piece that represents the finest craftsmanship, heirloom quality, and forward thinking design of custom furniture and accents made in Oklahoma City. No paint, stain, or dye was used in the creation of this piece. A clear coat finish was applied to preserve the natural wood tones and textures.

Dimensions:  11.625” wide at base, 6” deep at base, 34” tall
