Rectangle (2015)

Materials & Techniques: Maple, Peruvian Walnut, Chrome, Aluminum Knob, Paint.

Rectangle is a lamp design that represents a divergence from my past work and the beginning exploration of the use of paint and dyes to add color beyond the scope of natural wood tones so prevalent in my earlier work.  The design utilizes a clean linear frame with the switch housed inside a floating box suspended inside the rectangle creating a stunning juxtaposition of positive and negative space.  I created 3 pair of Rectangle. The Rectangle in Blue features a natural Peruvian walnut wood trim contrasted with metallic automotive style blue paint.  The Rectangle in Red features a painted black trim with a red dye stained quarter sawn red oak.  The natural wood pair was made of beech with Peruvian walnut trim, has a slightly modified base, and created as part of my Ambient Wave Bedroom Set.

The Rectangle lamp represents the finest craftsmanship, heirloom quality, and forward thinking design of custom lamps made in Oklahoma City.
