Materials & Techniques: Mallee Burl

Mallee Burl is a type of burl that comes from a certain eucalyptus tree in Australia.  I saw this burl and loved how sharp and rough its exterior surface was.  The thought occurred to me to sculpt through the rough surface to reveal the inner reddish brown color beneath and then polish those newly revealed areas to a smooth high shine.  The result is wonderful tactile and visual experience!
