Materials & Techniques: Sapele, Peruvian Walnut, Chrome.

The Bird of Paradise lamp was the second lamp designed by Jarrett Maxwell and began as a study in compound angles, avoiding the right (90 degree) angle completely. Inspiration was drawn from the tropical flower bearing the same name, however the lamp also resembles a bird in flight when viewed from certain angles. The lamp features solid wood construction and a contrasting trim that creates many visually pleasing angles. An industrial push button controller serves as the switch and the finial is custom made to match the angular nature of the lamp.  A total of 4 Bird of Paradise lamps were built in 2013, built as two pairs.  Each pair has a left and right lamp due to the asymmetrical nature of the design.  One pair was produced in quarter sawn Sapele and the other in cherry.  The lamps are trimmed with a Peruvian walnut detail to accentuate the angular motif.  The trim on the Sapele pair is slightly more pronounced than on the cherry pair.

The Bird of Paradise lamp represents the finest craftsmanship, heirloom quality, and forward thinking design of custom lamps made in Oklahoma City. No paint, stain, or dye was used in the creation of this piece. A clear coat finish was applied to preserve the natural wood tones and textures.
